Why should I have Hepatitis C testing done?

Without Hepatitis C testing, you can’t know whether or not you have it. If you find out that you have it, don’t panic! Hepatitis C in many cases is outright curable, and the course of medications to cure it have come a long way. There are great new drugs with very high percentages of cured patients with as little as a 12 week course of medication. In order to qualify for the cure, however, you have to test positive for it.

Where do I get tested?

Below is a list of places that provide residents of the Tampa Bay area with free or low-cost STD testing. The focus of this article is Hepatitis C testing, but most of these locations will perform a panel of STD tests including HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Herpes, and Syphilis.

What if I can’t afford the medication?

There are also medication assistance programs for those who may not be able to afford medication on their own, such as Gilead Pharmaceuticals’ program http://www.mysupportpath.com/ or Dr. Bob Wallace’s Love the Golden Rule in St. Petersburg. But first, you need to have your Hepatitis C testing completed.

Here’s the list of testing locations!
